Frequently Asked Questions 

When should I apply?

Applications are available now!  Students can apply and sign up for housing beginning December 1, 2013.  Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received.  The application fee is not refundable under any circumstances.

What is a license agreement and a lease?

A license agreement is a legal document that students sign to secure their bed space for housing when the housing in on campus land, while a lease is for housing that is not located on campus land.  This means at UVA it is called a license agreement and at the QUAD it is called a lease.  The license agreement or lease is considered executed when it has been signed by the student, guarantor, notarized, fees paid, and signed by a housing staff member.  Once the license agreement or lease is executed, the student is obligated to the full terms unless a termination request is submitted and approved by the Director.  See Cancellation/Termination link.

How do I know if I have space?

Once the license agreement or lease is fully executed the student is assigned a bed space.

Benefits of Living in Student Housing

Students who live in student housing are much more likely to have better retention rates, meaning they are likely to return the following year and continue until they graduate, usually sooner than students entering at the same time but not living in student housing.  Students are much more connected to the campus, making friends, joining clubs and organizations and more likely to attend our numerous events on campus and in the residence halls.

Students save money on commuting and are free from spending time in traffic. They don’t have to worry about furniture, utility bills, or finding a parking space when they are running late to class.  They have more places to study and have easier access to our library.

Filling out the Roommate Assignment Information Form

The Room Assignment Information Form is completed at the time the student completes their license agreement or lease.  The Housing staff will use this information to assign students roommate pairings, apartment location and theme options.  Please fill out the Room Assignment Information Form accurately and honestly.  The Roommate Assignment Information Form is due July 1, 2014.

What if I want to live with someone specific?

Students can request roommates on the Roommate Assignment Form.  In order to be assigned together all roommates must select one another and the same room/apartment type by July 1, 2014.  Roommate requests are not guaranteed, although housing staff will do their best to accommodate requests received by
July 1, 2014.

How will I find out my assignment and roommates?

Roommate assignments will be sent to the student’s CSUSM email address on      August 1, 2014.   Included in your roommate assignments will be information regarding the move-in process and what to bring to your apartment. 

What if I want to switch roommates?

Students interested in a room or apartment change can request a room swap during swap week, held the third week of the Fall and Spring Semesters.  Swap week is the only time that residents will be able to change rooms.  A fee is charged to cover the administrative costs associated with the move.
