In order to provide consistent messaging for departments, staff and faculty on days when our campus will observe reduced campus operations, Communications has prepared the following messages for your use:

Department Signage

All departments are requested to print and place a common sign on department doors at close of business the evening before the days of reduced campus operation.

Voicemail Message

All faculty and staff are encouraged to place the following voicemail message on their phones on furlough days:

“Hello this is __________

Our Office is Closed Today.

This closure is necessitated due to the significant reduction in state general fund support for the CSU.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Email Message:

All faculty and staff are encouraged to place the following “Out of Office” message on their email on furlough days:

“I am out of the office today and will be unable to access email or voicemail. Employees of the California State University are being furloughed an average of two days per month from August 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010, due to cuts in State support for the CSU budget. Today is a day of reduced campus operation at CSUSM. Classes are in session, but most administrative offices and the Kellogg Library are closed. University Police, student housing and limited food service options are open. Many services are available online to students, faculty and staff, and those are accessible 24/7 at csusm.edu. Please refer to csusm.edu/budgetcentral  for a complete list of the days of reduced campus operation”

We apologize for any inconvenience this reduced day of service may cause.”

In addition to these messages, Communications will also have special messaging on the csusm.edu home page during weeks when there is a day of reduced campus operation as well as having signs posted at campus entrances on furlough days. If you have any questions or comments, please email publicity@csusm.edu.
