Getting an Account
All registered CSUSM students are issued a username and
email address. To set up your username, password and email
address, please bring a valid picture ID and your Student
Campus ID number to any of the IITS
Instructional Computing Labs and a lab monitor
will assist you. If you don’t have your Student Campus
ID number, please contact Registration

Acquiring a Computer
The University does not provide individual computers to
students. Students can use any computer in the
Computer Labs. If you are looking to purchase a personal computer,
you get a discount for being a CSUSM student through Dell.
Computer Competency Requirement
You will need to take and pass the Computer
Competency Requirement (CCR) test. CS 100 will prepare
you for the CCR test.
Getting Software
As a student at CSUSM you are eligible for discounts on
software purchases. Please check with the CSUSM
University Bookstore for more information on software
available at a discount.
Saving & Storing Files
Make sure you save all documents to your ‘H drive’,
because anything saved on the ‘C drive’ will
be lost. You will also be able to access your ‘H drive’
from any computer on campus.
- Note: You will not be able to access your ‘H drive’
when you are off campus.
Anti-Virus
The campus uses a multi faceted approach to protect the
campus community. All incoming mail with attachments are
scanned for viruses and the desktop systems have protection
as well. Virus definition files are automatically updated
on an hourly basis.
Security
We have an obligation to protect information stored on
our computer systems from unauthorized access. Sharing passwords
is a violation of the IITS
Computer Policies.
Computer Use Policies
