Email at CSUSM

Email is provided free of charge to every registered student. Instructors frequently give out assignments, advice, and other information via e-mail. Campus information is also sent via e-mail.

Can't remember your current password or don't have a password?

To reset your password or activate an email account, bring a picture ID to the Student Technology Helpdesk (located on the 2nd floor of Kellogg Library), and a Student Employee on duty will help you to activate the account by issuing you a username and password.  You must change this password within 24 hours.  Click here to change your password.

The username and password will allow you to send and receive email, plus use the computers on campus.  Your new password is usually ready within 5 minutes.

NEW E-MAIL SYSTEM COMING IN JUNE 2008!

During June 2008, the campus will begin upgrading its e-mail service.  Students will have over 6.5 gigabytes of storage using the new e-mail service, powered by Google.  E-mail addresses will change as a result of this upgrade.  Instead of "@csusm.edu" after your username, the new e-mail address will end in "@cougars.csusm.edu."   You'll receive an e-mail message with more details as your transition date approaches.

Question:  Will my e-mail and e-mail folders be transferred?
Answer:    Yes, CSUSM will transfer your mail for you.

Question:  Will my contacts be transferred?

Answer:    The contacts you currently have in your WebMail account will be brought into the new e-mail service.

Question:  Will my e-mail address change?

Answer:    Yes, your e-mail address will end with @cougars.csusm.edu instead of @csusm.edu.  To make sure none of your mail bounces, we will forward @csusm.edu incoming mail to your @cougars.csusm.edu e-mail address for one year.

Question:  How will I access the new mail server?

Answer:    You will use the same URL you use now,
http://webmail.csusm.edu

Question:
What if I already had my e-mail forwarded?
Answer:    Your current "forwards" will be turned off, but you can re-forward your e-mail once your account has been transferred.

Question:  How can I learn more about how to use this new e-mail?
Answer:    There's quite a bit of information on the web about the new e-mail service.  A good place to start is right here.

Question:  Will there be ads showing up in this new e-mail service?
Answer:    Student e-mail accounts will not have ads.  Alumni accounts will show "family-friendly" ads.

Question:  My question hasn't been answered here.  What do I do?
Answer:    Contact the Student Technology Helpdesk via e-mail (sth@csusm.edu) or telephone (760-750-6505).  Our hours are posted at www.csusm.edu/iits/sth
