Frequently
Asked Questions
What is WebMail? - WebMail provides a
web-based interface to a student's email using a web
browser. At CSUSM WebMail's primary role is to provide
ubiquitous access to email from any web browser from any
location.
What about space restrictions? - There
are disk space quotas on your email account, and if you
exceed your allotted space you will no longer be able to
receive email.
What user name and password should be used?
- You should use the username and password that you use when
you dialin to campus which is the same username/password
combination used to log into the lab computers.
What is secure mode? - Secure mode
allows your email session to be encrypted, making it much
more difficult for other people to capture your email. You
must be using Netscape or Internet Explorer with versions 3
or higher. Please use the secure mode if at all possible. It
will be symbolized by a locked padlock graphic at the bottom
center of the screen. To enter secure mode, click the link
at the bottom of any of WebMail screen.
I can't seem to establish a secure connection,
what's wrong? - WebMail works best with Netscape
Communicator/Navigator or Internet Explorer of versions 4 or
higher.
What happens if I forget to logout? - By
default WebMail will automatically logout after 5 minutes of
inactivity. Whenever you are finished reading your mail, you
should click the logout button and wait to see WebMail's
main screen. You can then close your Web browser if so
desired or view other web pages.
How do I create folders? - WebMail
stores your addressbook and folders on the webmail server.
You can create separate folders by clicking on the File
button. You should name your folders with simple one-word
names. Multiple word folder names with spaces may create
strange behavior. Also it is best to keep the folder names
to less than 20 characters. Folders created by WebMail will
have the prefix mail added to their names.
I want to use WebMail. Can I still use
Eudora/Pine/Netscape mail? - On campus Pine and
Webmail will be the only supported email clients for
students. If you want to use some other email client at home
there may be some difficulties, when you delete or move an
email message from your New Mail folder using WebMail,
Eudora or any other email client will not be able to
retrieve that message. If you use Eudora to retrieve your
email, it will not be available to WebMail unless you have
selected "leave a copy of mail on server" in the Eudora
settings
How do I print an Email? - WebMail
cannot directly print email, instead you have to click on
the
print button of the web browser that you are using.
