Kellogg Library 2416

Kel2416 is a small, basic videoconferencing room used primarily for non-academic administrative purposes such as business communications, long-distance interviews, etc.

Traditional Videoconferencing

The Polycom unit pictured below assumes that whoever is being contacted at the other end of the videoconference also has a similar unit (H.323).

Some features of the traditional conferencing unit include:

  • Two-way compressed video over IP. The Polycom videoconferencing unit has many advanced features. Bridging multi-point conferences can be done through the CSU system service (CENIC).
  • Small capacity. Only holds about 12 persons comfortably..
  • Single video camera that can be pointed, tilted, and zoomed (PTZ) with handheld remote control.
  • Single audio input. Desktop microphone.

Web Conferencing

This space can also be used for Skype-based web conferencing, which includes point-to-point video and audio. This requires that the person at the other end of the conference have a computer and microphone, and optionally a web camera for video. Skype conferences can be recorded. Such recordings are generally placed on the campus Mediasite server for distribution and access can be limited to enhance confidentiality.
