Who can use CSUSM Camtasia Relay for Recording?

Only instructors, teacher assistants, and staff can record and upload presentations to CSUSM Relay.

A student or guest may be able to record and upload content if he or she has a faculty sponsor or staff supervisor that approves it. If that is the case, please email  studioservices@csusm.edu with the name of the faculty sponsor or staff supervisor so we may get the appropriate approvals to publish the recording.

I'm a student and my professor wants me to use Relay. How do I log in?

Students submissions must be authorized by a professor or instructor!

Select guest instead of presenter, put Your name in the top box and your Instructor's email in the second box and select submit. In the title please use the following naming convention or your presentation may not get processed: COURSE###_Instructors_Name_Title_Of_Your_Presentation.

An example would be: SOC495_Kathy_Shellhammer_Final_Project

In the Description box you should enter Your name and campus login name along with any other info you would like to include about your presentation

An example would be: Robert Smith rsmith236 Final project for SOC 495.

Slow internet upload speeds can cause a delay in uploading,  Check your internet connection, our videos stream at a bitrate between 700kbps to 2000kbps (2Mbps) if your connection is slower than that you may get a lot of buffering. You can check your internet speed athttp://speedtest.net or https://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/. Hotspots and connections slower than 2Mbps are not recommended.

What gets captured?

Relay will capture what is on a computer screen (windows or mac). If a multi-monitor computer is used, only one screen can be recorded. A USB web cam can be used to record and will show up as a picture in picture on the bottom right of the recorded screen. The current setup does not capture the internal computer audio.

[top]

What happens with the recorded video?

During the pilot, the video will be uploaded to our Mediasite system, which will deploy the video for web viewing, usually within an hour of the upload.

[top]

Where can I record?

You can record wherever you have a computer.  If you don’t have internet available or access to install the Relay recorder, you can record to a USB Flash Drive and upload the presentation later.

[top]

How do I install the software?

During the Pilot, if you are recording in a classroom, let Media Production Services know what room(s) you will be using and we will install it in that classroom.

If you are using your office computer, laptop or personal computer, you may download the recorder from http://www.csusm.edu/iits/support/mediaproddel/relay_recorders/

The recorder is available for PC and Mac.

My presentation uploaded but it isn't being processed! What gives?

Your display screen resolution may be too large. High Definition (HD) resolutions of 1920x1080 or larger can fail to be encoded for mediasite output. If you have this issue, try lowering your resolution to 1680x 1050 or lower.

To change your resolution on windows go to the control panel, select display and then select adjust resolution

To change your resolution on a mac go to system preferences, select displays and select a lower resolution.

If you have multiple monitors please adjust the monitor you are recording, this includes laptops connected to a dock or with an external monitor.

We are currently addressing this issue with the software developer for a solution.

[top]

I submitted my presentation and I still haven't received a confimation email! Why not?

There may be several reasons

  1. There are many recordings in the queue to be processed. This is so wonderful everyone is using it.
  2. Your video is long, 30 minutes or longer, the longer the video the longer the processing takes.
  3. The file failed to finish submitting to the server due to an internet connection failure. This is common with bad/slow wireless connections.

You can check the status of your presentation by logging into the server and checking the job status under the Presentations tab.

The confirmation email is sent after relay has processed the file and sent it to the Mediasite server for publishing.
