Firewall Information

Note: This is general firewall information for computers NOT on the CSUSM network. IITS already takes these precautions for all systems on the CSUSM network.

Install personal firewall (optional):

CSUSM also recommends the use of a personal firewall to further protect your computer from hackers, worms, and other malicious software. Proper configuration of a personal firewall is more complicated than that of anti-virus software, so please thoroughly read the documentation that comes with your product, should you choose to install one. CSUSM provides no support for personal firewalls. Below are links to several vendors who offer personal firewall products:

Norton Personal Firewall

ISS BlackICE PC Protection

Zone Labs ZoneAlarm Pro

McAfee Personal Firewall

Install a personal firewall: Firewalls can stop network viruses & worms before they have a chance to infect your computer, along with other sorts of network attacks. If you are running Windows XP, a full-featured firewall is built-in to the computer. See here for more details: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/internet/sp2_wfintro.mspx For more information about other Personal Firewalls available, see here: http://www.csusm.edu/iits/security/firewall.htm
