UVA Security

Computer viruses and worms cause computers to lose data, perform poorly and infect other computers.  IITS uses network monitoring and firewall software to try and prevent the spread of viruses on the school network, but we cannot manage the computers in the UVA to make sure they stay virus free.  In some cases, it becomes necessary for us to disable a UVA internet connection to protect the rest of the campus.  To make sure this doesn't happen to you, take these steps to keep your computer safe:

1. Keep your computer up to date. (required)

2. Make sure you have a virus scanner, and keep it up to date(required)

3. Install a personal firewall. (recommended)

4. Use an alternative web-browser. (recommended)
