Creating a Working Folder

The gallery page uses two sizes for your photos; a small thumbnail sized photo, and a photo that will fit the content area of the site. To create these two sizes, the photos will be run through batch actions in Photoshop.

Important, it is assumed that the photos have not been previously cropped or resized. If the photo is smaller than 500px tall or wide, Photoshop will stretch or distort the images.

Before any work begins in Photoshop, all the photos should be copied into a working folder to prevent overwriting your originals.

Preparing your image folder

  1. Create a new folder somewhere on your computer in a location you will remember
  2. Open the folder containing your photos
  3. Copy the photos into the working folder
  4. Name the photos so that they show up alphabetically in order. It will be much easier to rename and reorder the photos before they are imported into Cascade.
  5. In your working folder create 2 new folders named
    • Name one folder 'images'
    • Name the other folder 'thumbs'
  6. Your folder structure should look like this:

It is important that the folders are named 'images' and 'thumbs', lowercase. If they are named differently, the gallery will not work.
