Publishing to the server
Files may be saved to the Cascade server, filled with content, linked together, etc; but until you Publish them, they will not appear via the web.
Note: Cascade will show you your pages as they will look when published, even though they have not been published.
Publishing a single file vs. your whole site:
- If you edit an existing file/page, you may publish just that page, after submitting it.
- If you create a new page or folder that will appear in your left navigation, you must publish your site folder.
To publish files and folders in Cascade:
- Single click any file (or folder) in your Folder List
- Click the "Publish" tab, to the right of the "View" tab, at the top of your content.
Note: Leave all the defaults on this screen as they are (i.e.: Destination, Publish Report and Publish Mode).
You will see one or two options. www-dev and www-live. www-dev will publish your site to a deveolpment server that is not accessible by the university website. It is reccomended to publish to www-dev first to see your pages in a live environment before publishing your pages to www-live. - Click the "Submit" button.
- You will see a green system message that says: Publish message sent successfully. (directly under the horizontal blue navigation bar, above your content/Folder List).
If you published to www-dev, you can see you content by visiting: http://www-dev.csusm.edu/yourfoldername (note the www-dev in the URL)
Publishing times
It can take seconds to many minutes for your files to be published to the server. All published files sit in a queue ready to be published. If there multiple people publishing pages at once, your pages could take longer to appear on the web.
To view the publishing queue:
- Click the "C" navigation item on the top left.
- Go to "Publisher| Active jobs"
Here you will see a list of all active jobs and their progress.
