Editing Text

The Cascade Content Editor Tools:

  • If you mouse over any of the tool icons, the title (and keyboard shortcut, if available) of the tool will be displayed briefly.
  • As in most applications, select the content you wish to affect and click the tool.
  • You can also pull down the "Styles" and "Format" menus to apply these to your text

Note: There is a multi-step undo/redo tool in this editing interface.

Text

The Cascade WYSIWYG editor works just like any other word processor such as Microsoft Word. You can type directly into the editor and format you text as you would in Word. The styles and formatting menu are applied to format your text so it is easier to consume.

When you copy text from any source that is not another web page in Cascade (Word doc, Outlook email, another web page, etc...:

  1. Paste that text into Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Macintosh) first.
  2. Then select the text you just pasted into TextEdit/Notepad and copy it.
  3. Then paste it into Cascade.

Activity:

  1. Open a page, from your Cascade site, for editing.
  2. Add some text from an existing web site (via Notepad).
  3. Experiment with the editor tools for five minutes.

Accessibility and Style:

We must make all our content accessible.  It is the law.

  • Never use underlined text; it is easily confused with linked/underlined text.  Bold and italic works well.
  • Using headings (Heading 2 thru Heading 5) allows users to tab from one to the next, skilling sections that they are not interested in at this time.
  • White space helps all users scan our content more easily.
  • Try to limit lists to around four numbers or bullets.
