The
Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA has
been mounting a national survey of faculty
characteristics and opinions since 1969. The survey
instrument used is wide-ranging, dealing with issues
such as workload, teaching practices and research
activities, interaction with students and colleagues,
job satisfaction, and campus climate. Since 1989-90,
the survey has been undertaken triennially, with 2001-02
marking the fifth administration in the series.
