Chemistry/Biochemistry
projects completed by students in some of the classes that I
teach.
CHEM
491 - Membrane
Proteins in Health and Disease - Special Topics In
Biochemistry - Spring 2007.
In this class we discussed the structure and function of membrane
proteins. Students were introduced to the principles that govern
the structure of membrane proteins, and the various classes of
membrane proteins, using examples that play important roles in
human health and disease. Students were introduced to the program
VMD (Visual Molecular Dynamics) to visualize and manipulate
membrane proteins with known three dimensional structure downloaded
from the PDB (Protein Data Bank).
For their semester project students created a website detailing the
structure and other important features of a selected membrane
protein. All images shown on the sites were created by students
using VMD.
