The collaborative
use of the web and simulation software
by students can integrate concept
formation and application as students
practice applying "the signs,
symbols, and terms of mathematics".

student will become mathematically literate. Calculators and computers
for users of mathematics, like word processors for writers, are tools
that
simplify, but do not accomplish, the work at hand.
The ability to identify, present and support problem-based
learning with web access and software tools (spreadsheets, Logo, and
math-specific
software like the Geometer's Sketchpad) needs to become a
goal of mathematics
teacher education.
