LATINO GRADUATE RECEPTION
The Latino Graduate Reception (formerly known as La Raza) is a celebration of our Latino and Latina students at California State University San Marcos.
The event is hosted and sponsored by LAFS, MEChA, and Alpha Pi Sigma in collaboration with CAMP and other campus programs. The reception has been well attended with over 200 guests each year. The Latino Graduate Reception does not replace the University Commencement Ceremony. Graduates are encouraged to attend both.
This year's ceremony will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014. More details will become available as the date draws closer.
Who is this reception for? Our graduates and their families primarily, but we welcome faculty, staff, administrators and our external community partners to celebrate our graduates academic success.
Is there a cost? No. The event is free to our graduates and three (3) guests (children two years and under are considered as part of the guest count.) This event would not be possible without the support of our community, faculty, staff and administrators. Each year their monetary support helps the success of the event. We welcome donations from our alumni and Latino community in order to continue our celebration in honor of our Latino and Latina students! Make a donation.
What is the event's agenda? The event opens with welcoming remarks from the LAFS president and the President of the University. The President is followed by a keynote speaker. Students are then called to be recognized and can address the attendees for 2 minutes (optional). It is truly a rewarding event for the graduates and all other attendees.
What is the dress code? Graduates, CAP AND GOWN IS MANDATORY. Dress code is business-casual for other attendees.
What are stoles? Stoles are a scarf-like accessory worn by the graduates over their shoulders with vibrant colors and with the University name. Students are encouraged to wear their stoles as a symbol of "orgullo" (pride) at the Latino Graduate Reception and the Commencement Ceremony. Information regarding stole purchases will be made available as the date draws closer.
