Staff Role Model 2012
Norma Larios is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and is the first generation in her family to attain a university degree. As a graduate of Cal State San Marcos who obtained both a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Sociological Practice, Ms. Larios knows from firsthand experience that regardless of humble beginnings higher education is achievable for all. Because of these beliefs, Ms. Larios uses her current professional roles as a Special Coordinator with the Educational Opportunity Program and as a lecturer for the department of Sociology to motivate and encourage all individuals regardless of race, class, gender, sexuality or age that academic goals are achievable, positive change is possible, and giving back to your communities is necessary.
“Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore. We have seen the future, and the future is ours.” --- Cesar E. Chavez
