Alejandra Ramos Almaraz
Student Role Model 2012
I was born and raised in Nezahualcoyotl, Mexico until the age of 9, in the year 2000 my family and I migrated to the United States. I have two younger brothers and live at home. I am the first in my family to graduate from high school and go on to a four year college. I am currently a third-year student at Cal State San Marcos majoring in Women Studies with a minor in Ethnic Studies. I am a student activist and community organizer focusing on immigrant rights. At this time I work at the Women’s Center on campus as a peer educator and am closely involved in MEChA de CSUSM and Standing Together As oNe Dream (STAND). I am currently one of the coordinators of the Escondido Human Rights Committee, a grassroots organization in the community I live in. I will be graduating in Spring 2013 and I believe that with my educational privilege I will be able to better serve my community, create change and access to resources that we deserve.
