Supporting art education programs that bring the arts to local public schools across the county, Center ARTES at California State University San Marcos has teamed up with the Oceanside Barnes & Noble to host a special weekend book fair on Saturday, Dec. 11 and Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010. A percentage of all net sales, including online purchases, will help fund Center ARTES programs, providing free, educational art experiences for San Diego students.

Live music, puppet shows, special book readings, dance troupes, and performers will be onsite at the Oceanside Barnes & Noble, located at 2615 Vista Way, throughout the weekend to entertain guests and liven up the holiday shopping experience. On Sunday, Center ARTES will welcome Greg Evans, popular comic strip artist and author of Luann, for a two-hour book signing beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Shoppers can support arts education at the book fair by simply informing the cashier that they wish to have a portion of the proceeds benefit Center ARTES. Online purchases made from December 11-16 will also qualify by visiting www.bn.com/bookfairs and entering the book fair ID 10341501 at checkout.

About Center ARTES
Center ARTES was founded at Cal State San Marcos by Dr. Merryl Goldberg in 2003. Center ARTES is dedicated to restoring arts education to the public schools through training student teachers, classroom teachers, placing artists in schools to work with children and teachers directly and working with school districts on strategic planning, research, and evaluation. Center ARTES partners with the San Diego County Office of Education providing a hub for arts education to unite schools, develop art partners, and bring teachers and parents together.
