CSUSM Hosts Free E-Waste Recycling Event

As part of the university's commitment to sustainability, California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is sponsoring a free electronic waste recycling event on Saturday, April 23 to help community members and businesses recycle and properly dispose of old or unwanted electronics in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner.
Statistics released by the Environment Protection Agency in 2007 state that and estimated 370 million units of e-waste are discarded annually in the United States and less than 20% of it is recycled. Although electronic waste only accounts for 2 percent of America's trash in landfills, it equals 70 percent of overall toxic waste. Some electronic devices contain contaminants and hazardous materials including lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, beryllium, and brominated flame retardants.
Organized by the university's Office of Community Service Learning and Risk Management & Safety, the free recycling event will be held on campus in Lot B, located off Craven Road near the intersection of Craven Road and South Twin Oaks Valley Road. The event will be held rain or shine.
Accepted electronics: Computer Monitors, Computers, Speakers, CRT Monitors, Telephones, Stereo Equipment, LCD Monitors, Cell Phones, Keyboards/Mice, Laptops, Copiers/Printers, Scanners, Televisions, Camcorders, Fax Machine, Miscellaneous Wiring, Plasma Screens/TV's, MP3 Players, Items with Electronic Boards, DVD Players, VCR's, and much more. All personal data is erased or destroyed for consumer protection.
The following items are not accepted: Household or commercial appliances or hazardous materials/ waste.
