Ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Apr. 15 at noon
CSUSM will celebrate the grand opening of its brand new 90,000-sq.-ft. University Student Union with two weeks of special events, beginning Monday, Apr. 14.
The theme “The Beat: See It, Hear It, Feel It” captures the spirit of the official grand opening of the new University Student Union (USU) at California State University San Marcos. Two weeks of grand opening festivities will begin on Monday, Apr. 14 with events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members, including an outdoor movie night in the USU outdoor amphitheater on Apr. 16, an event highlighting the USU’s unique sustainability features on Apr. 24 and an alumni casino night on Apr. 25.
On Tuesday, Apr. 15 at noon in the USU amphitheater, President Haynes will host the official ribbon cutting ceremony. Alumni and student representatives will speak and reflect on the now realized dream of a student union and what it means for the growth of the University.
The new four-story, nearly 90,000-sq.-ft.-building, funded by student fees, has become the new heart of campus and hub of campus life. Located near the center of the University between Kellogg Library and Chavez Plaza, the USU features new dining options, an open-air amphitheater, a student activity center with a game lounge, a rooftop garden and patio, and a 9,000-sq.-ft.-ballroom.
"The USU was designed with the input of students and is all about serving students,” said senior Dominica Ranieri, chair of the student-led USU Advisory Board. “The new space brings a new vibe to campus, and will help create a stronger sense of community and collaborative spirit.”
