Gang Prevention Video Premiers May 19 at CSUSM

What: The premier screening of a gang prevention video produced and directed by Professor Kristine Diekman of California State University San Marcos (CSUSM).

When: The screening will take place on Wednesday, May 19 at approximately 10:30 a.m. The North County Gang Prevention Summit begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 12 noon.

Where: The M. Gordon Clark Field House/University Student Union (building 23 on the campus map) located at CSUSM: 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Rd., San Marcos, CA

Why: The short film, titled "A Way Out", is intended for gang affiliated youth, their families, educators and the general public to understand not only the consequences of gang related activity, but to give information and motivation on how to get out of the gang before it is too late.


The premiere screening of a gang prevention video produced and directed by Professor Kristine Diekman of California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), will be presented Wednesday, May 19 during a North County Gang Prevention Summit on the CSUSM campus in the M. Gordon Clarke Field House/University Student Union. The film will screen at approximately 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by a panel of the film's participants who will speak about their experiences and answer questions. The public is invited and admission is free.  Attendees will receive a free copy of the film.

The short film, titled "A Way Out", is intended for gang affiliated youth, their families, educators and the general public to understand not only the consequences of gang related activity, but to give information and motivation on how to get out of the gang before it is too late. It is told from the perspective of gang members and former gang members who have successfully parted from gang life or are in the process of doing so. The screening is the culmination of a yearlong project supported by CSUSM, Supervisor Bill Horn's office, the City of Vista and the San Diego County Office of Education,  and with many important contributions from community members and organizations.
