CSUSM Set to Play 2010 Softball Season On-Campus

The Cal State San Marcos softball team will play its entire home season at the newly-built softball field on campus, Athletic Director Tom Seitz announced on Thursday, Jan. 14.

"Adding on-campus facilities for our sports will help in so many ways - recruiting, fan interest, campus life, scheduling - the list goes on and on.  We would like to thank all the people who helped make this possible.  We look forward to continuing this expansion."

Entering its fourth season of play, the CSUSM softball team has called the field at Mission Hills High School home for the previous three years.  The team has achieved relative success, posting a record of 34-23 in 2009 and advancing to the Conference Finals.

But new Head Coach Dave Williams, who came to the University from Point Loma Nazarene last June, has made the field his top priority since arriving.  With the backing of the Athletic Department and generous help from parents, companies, and members of the community, the long-planned field became reality in just a few short months.  Ground was broken on October 13, and the team is currently practicing on the field.

Official play on the tentatively-named CSUSM Softball Field will begin on Saturday, Jan. 30, when the Cal State San Marcos softball team opens its 2010 season at noon against the University of Redlands.

The Athletic Department is also proud to announce that parking in Lot Z (the dirt lot closest to the field) will be complimentary for the entire home season.  Admission for all home games will be free as well.  A complete schedule for the softball season is available at the Athletic Department homepage, www.csusmcougars.com.

The CSUSM Softball Field is part of the larger "Fields of Vision" development, which will turn the University's large dirt "front yard" into an athletics complex that includes a baseball field, multi-purpose fields, arena, and aquatic center.  The baseball field is expected to be completed by next season.
