Brenna Sandberg Named NAIA Softball Second-Team All-American
Cal State San Marcos pitcher Brenna Sandberg has been named to the NAIA Softball All-American Second Team, the NAIA announced Wednesday.
Sandberg becomes the first Cougar softball player in the program's four-year history to be named an All-American. The junior led the nation in wins and innings pitched this season, going 38-12 with a 1.26 ERA and 318 strikeouts in 328.1 innings of work. She was the driving force behind the team's run to its first A.I.I. Conference Championship, tossing back-to-back no-hitters in the team's first two post-season games. Sandberg was also a 2009 and 2010 A.I.I. All-Conference selection, and she was named 2010 A.I.I. Pitcher of the Year.
CSUSM softball finished its season as the #5-ranked team in the nation with a 40-15 record. The squad qualified for its first NAIA National Championship, where it was eliminated after going 2-1 in pool play.
Sandberg was also a 2009 and 2010 A.I.I. All-Conference selection, and she was named 2010 A.I.I. Pitcher of the Year.
