Incoming seventh graders within the Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) now have the opportunity to take advantage of a fast track plan that guarantees admission to Cal State San Marcos for qualified students, thanks to an agreement established between the University and district administrators on June 28.

“Cal State San Marcos is a community-engaged institution of higher education committed to helping our region’s youth succeed,” said President Karen Haynes. “When our students know what’s expected of them and what’s guaranteed for meeting these expectations, the entire region is certain to share in their triumph.”

The Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed by President Haynes and OUSD Superintendent Larry Perondi at last month’s Board of Education meeting, is the eighth agreement that the University has granted with organizations and institutions within the region since 2006.

The agreement sets a structured roadmap to college success for Oceanside’s students, and promises that all graduating seniors, from the class of 2017 and beyond, will receive guaranteed admission to CSUSM if they meet California State University (CSU) course and GPA requirements. Not only does the recently signed MOU guarantee admission to CSUSM, but it helps students become college-ready, eligible to apply to any of the CSU system’s 22 other campuses.

Currently, the University has similar agreements with the San Marcos Unified School District, the Escondido Union High School District, the Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District, San Pasqual Academy, the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services Agency, the San Diego County Health & Human Services Agency, and Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel.  In September, Cal State San Marcos will enter into its ninth MOU with the Temecula Valley Unified School District.

“Signing an agreement with a university such as CSUSM, growing in stature the way it is— this is money in the bank for our kids,” said Superintendent Perondi.  “This is truly a huge milestone for OUSD.”

“Cal State San Marcos is a community-engaged institution of higher education committed to helping our region’s youth succeed,” said President Karen Haynes.
