President Honors Marilyn Huerta
President Karen Haynes with Marilyn Huerta at the 2014 Outstanding Faculty and Staff Awards Reception.
Marilyn Huerta, the community liaison for CSUSM's Community Engagement division, is named "Employee of the Year."
Marilyn has been instrumental in raising the CSUSM’s profile among the arts community through the Arts and Lectures program. She has envisioned and implemented a new level of quality and customer service that has led to the streamlined programming, coordination and planning of events. And she was pivotal in the creation of a new ticketing system that has allowed Cal State San Marcos to maintain student attendance while increasing access to community members.
Her efforts are evident in the addition of an art gallery in San Marcos’ Restaurant Row, in increased student participation in local art contests, and in the growing number of community members coming to campus for events. For example, Marilyn’s marketing, outreach and promotion of last February’s Father Boyle event resulted in a packed tent of more than 1,400 people, CSUSM’s largest indoor event to date.
Through her involvement in public arts initiatives and her work on the San Marcos Arts Council and other groups, Marilyn is constantly seeking new ways to connect CSUSM to its community and to connect students to the arts. According to her colleagues, Marilyn has helped CSUSM “realize a new and exciting level of community engagement that was clearly missing before she joined the team.”
