Dr. Jackie Trischman, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, receives the 2014 "President’s Outstanding Faculty Award for Service Leadership."
Dr. Trischman joined the University in 1995 and has been a contributing member of the campus community since her first days. She has developed and taught several lower division, general education and upper-division chemistry courses, and she consistently encourages students to design their own experimental protocols.
At the college level, Dr. Trischman served as the department chair for chemistry and biochemistry for six years and has been elected to numerous search and peer review committees. She has served on the Athletics Steering Committee, provided leadership for the Super STEM Saturday event on campus and was the CSUSM representative for the CSU Statewide Research Competition. She was even the assistant coach for the golf team in its second year.
Perhaps Dr. Trischman’s most visible work is her service in the Academic Senate, which she successfully chaired in 2004-05 and again last academic year. During challenging times for the system, Dr. Trischman’s strong faculty leadership engendered collaborations and partnerships between faculty and administration. Her colleagues note her ability to reach out and listen to all voices, and her consistently calm manner even in stressful situations.
She takes her service commitments very seriously and is respected by her peers for her service on behalf of the University and her students. She is truly dedicated to the mission and values of Cal State San Marcos.
