Wayne Veres, IITS dean and interim library dean, receives the 2014 "Zomalt Outstanding Service Award."

Wayne has been a member of the CSUSM family since 1999, taking the position of IITS dean in 2004. In summer 2012 he accepted an appointment as interim library lean. It is unprecedented for one person to lead two very large, complex departments within Academic Affairs, yet Wayne makes it look easy.

He works tirelessly to build relationships across campus, foster collaboration, support innovation and encourage employees. He has built a forward thinking, cohesive team and has become a trusted and integral member of the campus community.

As IITS dean, Wayne assisted with the implementation of CSUSM’s technology strategic plan, led the conversion of Markstein Hall’s room 202 into an active learning classroom, and regularly meets with faculty on their technological needs.

As library dean, Wayne worked quickly and efficiently to learn how library staff and faculty work together to support and further student learning and teaching. Within months he jumpstarted efforts to create new library instruction spaces and facilitated the development of the library’s archives and the e-theses program.

Wayne’s commitment to quality, to excellent customer service and to our mission is evident in all that he does. He truly embodies CSUSM’s “University First” spirit and epitomizes the institution’s values of intellectual engagement, integrity and inclusiveness.
