Faculty Associate
Kimberley (Kim)
Knowles-Yáñez holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign and a Master's in Regional
Planning from Washington State University. She is currently an Assistant
Professor of Urban and Regional Planning in the Liberal Studies Department
at California Sate University San Marcos. Previously, she was a Research
Associate at the Center for Environmental Studies and Adjunct Professor in
the School of Planning & Landscape Architecture at Arizona State
University, where she conducted land use planning research for the
NSF-funded Central Arizona Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research Project.
Her areas of research
interest include land use and community planning, Geographic Information
Systems (GIS), and children's issues. At Cal State San Marcos, Professor
Yáñez has developed interdisciplinary courses on San Diego County and
children & the environment. Prior to her graduates studies, she was a U.S.
Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador.
