The CSUSM School of Nursing Student Healthcare Project has been designed to provide basic community and primary healthcare to the underserved in the community of Ocean Beach in San Diego, CA. Care is provided by licensed professionals and CSUSM School of Nursing baccalaureate and graduate nursing students under the supervision of licensed volunteers (RNs, APRNs, physicians, and allied health providers) in collaboration with faculty and staff from CSUSM School of Nursing and UCSD School of Medicine on most Wednesdays from 10AM-3PM at the First Baptist Church of Ocean Beach. Acute and chronic disease management and referral as well as disease prevention activities and prescription refills are offered. The volunteer staff and students assist clients in accessing other healthcare-related resources and provide personal hygiene products and clothing on a case by case basis.
This project is affiliated with and works hand-in-hand with The Episcopalian Church Center to provide primary care services on Saturdays from 0730-1100 to homeless and underserved persons in the Ocean Beach area.
