CityStuff: Program that teaches third graders the intricacies of how city government works. You receive 3-hr. training and curriculum. (Approx. 20 hrs.)

Carlsbad Library: Homework center: tutor grades 1-12
Assist students with test preparation, homework questions, and learn new study skills.  Volunteers work with Children’s desk to locate information for homework assignments.

Requirements:
Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to follow guidelines and directions independently. Experience with school aged children, preferably experience and knowledge of school curriculum. Educational background or tutoring experience is very helpful.
Patience and dedication to helping children. 2 hrs/wk. City pays for background and fingerprinting

This community partner offers a unique opportunity to work directly with migrant workers on Sunday afternoons. Staff cooks and serves a hot meal for the workers. DO NOT need to speak Spanish! Due to risk management requirements, please contact the Office of Service Learning if interested!

The Phoenix House Teen Recovery Centers provide after-school treatment for adolescents and their families. Teens attend intensive sessions at the centers on weekdays, and participate in "clean and sober" supervised recreational activities on weekends. Assist at the Carlsbad location for with community outreach, data management, client follow-ups, fundraising, and to provide support to staff in daily operations.  
Qualifications:
Be Passionate about working with  adolescents.  A true team player who enjoys collaborating with others.  Flexible and creative, with a sense of humor and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
Be willing to set a good example and serve as a role model for our young people. Internship durations will coincide with the school semester schedule.

Requirements: Fingerprints/TB testing, and orientation -- contact agency at least 4-6 weeks prior to class start date. Resume needed.
