Community Service Learning: Slideshow of our students making a difference in the community

"Teach me, and I will forget;
Show me, and I will remember;
Involve me, and I will understand."
Chinese proverb

What Is Community Service Learning?
The Corporation for National and Community Service defines community service learning as "a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities."

See what Service Learning at CSU San Marcos is about!

The two major components of community service learning in an academic course are:

  • The student's participation in a community service activity connected to course materials and
  • The student's active reflection on the meaning of that service

Reflection activities may range from classroom discussions to journaling to research papers connected to the service activities.

This year the Kinesiology 495 students amogst Kinesiology Club they dedicated a lot of time and effort to be able to bring food distribution to the students on campus. The Kine 495 students did their community service learning with Donate Don't Dump, together along with the North County Food bank they were able to hold the food distributions twice a month at the Summit Church across the street from campus.

Whatch this 5 minute reflection video they created about their project!
