How to become and SI Leader
The Office of Biomedical Research and Training (OBRT) received an NIH grant that provides Supplemental Instruction (SI) for targeted classes. A general description of SI is at the bottom of this message. Generally, we offer SI support for the following courses:
• Biol 210, 215, 351 and 352
• Chem 201 and 202
• Math 125 and 160
• Physics 205 and 206
• Psych 360
CHARACTERISTICS WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Current undergraduate or graduate student
• Good GPA
• Has taken the targeted class, received a good grade, and has professor’s recommendation
• Has a flexible schedule to attend all lectures and conduct three, 50-minute SI sessions each week
• Has good communication skills
• Displays good nature and is dependable
• Likes the content area
• Is sensitive to multicultural issues
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - TIME COMITTMENT
• Preferably attend all lectures of the class
• Must conduct at least three SI sessions each week of the semester for each class section
• Must participate in a 5-hr training workshop within the first week of the semester. (This is a one-time-only activity)
• Must be willing to attend periodic meetings with Dr. Bray and the faculty member teaching the course.
• Overall, for each class section this job will probably take 6-8 h/wk. The hours could increase before a lecture exam.
