Program: CSU College Corps Program
Pre-College Advisor (3-4 positions available)
Hourly Wage:
$8.25 - $9.50 per hour

Duties:  Under the immediate supervision of the CSU College Corps Program Coordinator, Pre-College Advisors will perform services to target high school students in an effort to motivate and prepare students to pursue college opportunities. Pre-College Advisors will work 10-15 hours per week and will perform the following duties:

  • Provide classroom, individual and group presentations and pre-college advising to high school students on preparation and readiness for college, entrance exams, A-G course requirements, admission criteria, goal setting, early assessment program (EAP), and financial aid information;
  • Assist the College Corps Coordinator in the planning, organization, and execution of College Corps projects and initiatives. Serve as liaison and meet with high school staff members at school sites about College Corps services and logistical program needs; and
  • Meet regularly with the College Corps Coordinator and Pre-College Advising Team to submit student contact reports, receive guidance and in-service training, and discuss progress toward meeting program objectives and any related issues.

Qualifications: College Corps Pre-College Advisors must be self-motivated, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills; show demonstrated experience, knowledge and sensitivity in working with students from historically excluded backgrounds; general knowledge and application processes of the CSU, other post-secondary systems of education, and financial aid options; and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  Applicants must be currently enrolled junior, senior, or graduate-level CSUSM students and possess a minimum G.P.A. of 2.8, have reliable transportation, be willing and available to travel to North San Diego County high schools during school hours and after school, have a valid California Drivers license, and current car insurance.

Program requires each applicant to interview for position.  Applicants must also be available to complete 12- 20 hours of intensive training prior to high school placement.
