Title: Student Assistant
Duties: Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Early Outreach Coordinator, the Student Assistant will perform services to target elementary and middle school students who have been historically excluded from higher education and motivate and prepare students to pursue college opportunities. The Student Assistant will work 5-15 hours per week and will perform the following duties:
• Provide presentations to students about post-secondary education, including topics in course planning, college entrance exams, goal setting, career exploration, and other general college related information
• Assist with the coordination and facilitation of campus visits, which includes providing campus tours, participating in student panels, and compiling materials for dissemination
• Meet and attend regular Early Outreach staff meetings to discuss, plan, report on related activities and projects, and receive Outreach Program updates and announcements
• Provide academic encouragement and mentorship in various academic areas, and conduct workshops; Special Projects to be determined
Qualifications: The Student Assistant must be self-motivated, possess good written and oral communication skills; demonstrated experience, knowledge and sensitivity in working with students from low income and ethnically diverse backgrounds; general knowledge of the CSU, other post-secondary systems of education, and financial aid options; ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Applicants must be current CSUSM students and possess a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5, have reliable transportation, a valid California Drivers license, and have car insurance.
