Parking Fee Plan (3 Tier Plan)

The Proposal

Early Spring 2002 Parking Services held a series of open forums to inform the  campus community of the parking and transportation challenges due to our rapidly growing campus. These open forums were positive and our campus community provided many options that ranged from starting a vanpool program, increasing carpool spaces, increasing parking fees, building a parking structure, expanding the existing shuttle service, etc…  These options were further explored and discussed by the Summer 2002 Parking and Transportation Task Force.  This Task Force had yet another opportunity to present to the President additional short and long term parking options that would address the parking demands placed by our rapidly growing campus community.

Based on all this input and financial constraints gathered from our constituents
and the Parking and Transportation Task Force, the President requested a Parking Fee Plan be submitted to the Student Fee Advisory Committee for their
recommendations.

The Parking Fee Plan has been approved and the new parking fee increase will
take effective January 2003, Fall 2006, and Fall 2009 for students, MPP's, and
various other permit holders.  (Listed below is the new 3 Tier parking fee plan)
This parking fee will position the campus to take advantage of various opportunities to provide additional parking that may arise in the next few years.

What the increased fees make possible.

The additional revenue would allow construction of a parking structure that would
open during 2010/11, adding 2000 spaces.  A second structure is planned to open in 2015/16 that would add another 2000 spaces. At the same time, the campus would be building its parking revenues and developing the resources to enable it to respond to increased demand without further drastic fee increases.
