The San Diego First Five Commission has granted approximately $7,681,356 for the Center for Children and Families.  The contract between the Commission and the Foundation has been signed.

The Center, which will be sited at the current location of the Visual and Performing Arts Annex, will be licensed for 152 children, from ages zero through five, at one time.

The 20,000 square foot facility will house programs that will address the health, education and development of the children and their families.

The Planning Team has toured five facilities in San Diego County in order to develop architectural program requirements.  This project will be a design-build project, with RFQ’s released on 5/11/05 and Statement of Qualifications due 5/27/05.  The SOQ’s will be scored and the submitters will be shortlisted to 4 or 5 teams to receive the design-build Request for Proposal.  The RFP will be sent out by 7/1/05 with proposals due on August 15th.  The proposals will be scored and a design-build contract will be negotiated with one team.

Board of Trustees approval is anticipated on 9/21, and construction is scheduled to start on March 1, 2006, and be complete by May 2007.
