CALEA
International Law Enforcement Accreditation
In July 2012, our police department was awarded an International Law Enforcement Accreditation Certificate from the Commission on Accreditation for Law enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This accreditation marks the culmination of a four year project to develop and implement a set of policies and procedures (directives) that adhere to the standards established by CALEA along with documented compliance to these standards.
CALEA standards have been designed to enhance, strengthen, and maintain; 1) law and order, 2) public safety, 3) service delivery, 4) crime prevention and control capabilities, 5) essential management procedures, 6) fair and nondiscriminatory personnel practices, 6) interagency cooperation and coordination, and 7) citizen and employee confidence in the goals, objectives, policies and practices of our police department.
The CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation Program reflects the current thinking and experience of public safety practitioners and researchers. Major public safety associations, leading education and training institutions, governmental agencies, as well as public safety executives internationally, acknowledge CALEA's Accreditation Program as a benchmark for today's public safety agencies.
Accreditation is the recognition of law enforcement excellence, an achievement collectively awarded to and shared by all members of our department.
