About Cal State San Marcos
Founded in 1989,
Cal State San Marcos opened its doors to students in the fall of
1990. It is the first of a new generation of Cal State Universities.
More than 9,000 students currently attend the 304-acre campus,
located in the foothills of northern San Diego County just a short
distance from some of Southern California's best beaches and an hour
from the U.S.-Mexico border.

agency of its kind.
Position Highlights
Cal State San
Marcos Police Officers are duly sworn, armed Peace Officers of the
State of California. Empowered by section 830.2 (c) of the
California Penal Code, Cal State San Marcos Police Officers possess
the same authority and adhere to the same state-mandated standards,
as municipal police officers. Therefore, under California law, Cal
State San Marcos Police Officers may enforce laws and make arrests
anywhere in the state however; we concentrate our efforts on the
campus and its immediate surroundings. Our Department enjoys a
positive and close working relationship with the San Diego County
Sheriff’s Department, with whom we share concurrent jurisdiction.

Ride-Along's
The University Police offer
interested individuals the opportunity to accompany a police
officer in the field to observe the patrol activities of the
campus and immediate surrounding areas and is called a
"ride-along". This program is offered to better familiarize
the university and local communities to the law enforcement
function, and to allow those considering a career in law
enforcement to better inform themselves on their personal
career options. If you are interested in participating in
