Independent Contractors and Special Consultants
The purpose of these guidelines is to assist the hiring department in processing requisitions for Independent Contractors, Guest Lecturers/Speakers/Performers (hereinafter referred to as Independent Contractors), while complying with State and Federal Laws, CSU policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
 

Special Consultant:

  • considered temporary employees
  • covered by Workers' Compensation in case of injury
  • subject to tax withholding, and in some instances, retirement, social security, and Medicare taxes
  • subject to Direct Deposit if currently participating in the program
  • do not receive health benefits
  • do not represented by a collective bargaining agreement

Special Consultant Process

Independent Contractor:

  • Guest Lecturers, Speakers, Performers who are non-employees of the University and use a Social Security Number for IRS tax purposes
