We have replaced most of the cable TV on campus with a new "internet" television (IPTV) that allows us to broadcast to computers all over campus. The CSUSM IPTV system allows all campus students, faculty, and staff to watch live and on-demand cable-quality video anywhere on campus on their computers.

The IPTV system is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating  systems. Software allowing playback is installed on all CSUSM lab computers and will be installed on all new faculty/staff machines as well.

Using the IPTV System to View Cable TV

To view IPTV, go to any computer on campus, launch a browser (Internet Explorer on Windows, Safari on Mac) and type "mcs" into the address field and press Return (or click here). A login screen will appear - use you normal email username and password. All lab machines on campus have the player software installed. If the software has not been installed on your machine, go here for installation help.

Live video interface

The video streams use a high-bandwidth MPEG2 format, just like the set-top box you have at home if you have digital cable. This provides a TV-quality image, but can only be accessed on-campus due to the high bandwidth required, which exceeds even cable modem/DSL speeds. Note that you cannot access IPTV wirelessly. For more information on this system, please contact Will White (8670).
