Rich Media Delivery means the capability
to deliver high-quality media: video, audio, screen
recordings, interactions, etc. to users in a variety of
environments to achieve the goals of the institution in
teaching and learning, as well as administrative functions.
These delivery methods are integrated into the campus
technology environment, including our WebCT learning
management system, to provide the most seamless, easy-to-use
delivery possible.
Some of the uses of rich media include:
- Class sessions - recording for future
on-demand playback
- Distance education - providing real-time
interactive learning experiences
- Demos - on-demand training for computer
software use
- Training - administrative use for training
CSUSM staff
- Guest lectures - bringing experts into the
classroom from a distance
- eReserves - student playback of video and
audio materials for courses
- Broadcast TV - viewing and recording from our
campus cable TV feed
- Local production - on-demand archives of work
from our studios
- Overflow events - broadcasting important
campus events campuswide
- Research - recording interactions and visual
materials for later analysis
- Skills grading - recording students skills
demonstrations for grading and analysis
- Portfolio - integration with future
ePortfolio systems that students and alumni may retain
for future use
- Hard-copy - most of these formats can also be
provided on CD-ROM or other transportable media
- Surveillance - for security purposes
Most, but not all of these functions have been achieved.
Some are goals that we hope to achieve in the near-term. At
the top of this page you will find links to many of the
specific technologies that allow us to do these things.
