Oklahoma Silence

It was my first time in that hot forgotten place.
A ghost town.
Only a few tourists face the penetrating light.
An armadillo hears voices and rolls
rapidly away. Dust swirls as
exhausted children trudge through the silence.
A car occasionally roars through the silence.
A horn breaks the silence.
A few heads turn. A truck passes.
Again, silence fills the air.
Hot winds wisp through your hair.
