TITLE: “United We Judge”

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I’ve been doing art ever since I can remember. I was never excellent in any one field but I always like to try new things and make creative projects. As I grew up I learned the more traditional forms of art in depth i.e. painting, drawing, shading etc. But again, I was never excellent in one specific field. In college I found my artistic niche in video editing. It’s not considered a traditional art form but I love it. This piece “United We Judge” does not deal with video, but I always love going back to the days when I would just sit down with markers and make something up.

I guess you could say I get my inspiration through other artists. I often have writers block when it comes to new ideas so viewing other artists’ work is really inspirational. This piece was inspired by the artist Guillermo Gomez Pena who worked with a lot of stereotypes from his Latino culture. I thought I might parallel that through this piece by asking the people of my American culture to give their stereotypes of their own culture, and what better way to display that than on an replica of the American flag?
