Jen Hawker

Experience
I am currently working to get my degree in kinesiology. I’ve been working at the Clarke Field House since the beginning of Fall 2015. I am certificated for personal training through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). With the help of my studies in kinesiology and my personal training certification along with an athletic background I have reached and continue to work on one of my long term personal fitness goals of being toned and decreasing body fat percentage while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It was a challenge but with the right determination and mindset I persisted. To give you a little background, My whole life I have been an active person, whether it be sports or even just getting outdoors to be a little active. From wee years till now I have played and took part in baseball, T-ball, softball, soccer, ballet, tap dance, Irish dance, volleyball, and sideline and competitive cheerleading. My longest and favorite sports were soccer (for 8 years), volleyball (for 4 years), and competitive cheerleading (for 5 years). Now that I am in college I still focus on maintaining and progressing my athletic fitness, even though I do not have time to take part in a sport. My overall goal now for fitness is to achieve longevity and to maintain a healthy body and lifestyle.
Exercise Philosophy
I believe that a healthy active lifestyle is the key to achieving goals in all aspects of someone’s life. Once you start to feel the advantages of a healthy lifestyle, you will never want to go back. I love to assist those who are determined to make that change today and flourish.

Dani Tildahl

Experience
I spent the past summer interning at a gym, and working with clients under proper supervision. I recently received my certification From NETA. I have always been in and out of the gym since a young age. My father raised me as he was training as a Body Builder and I started training for my athletics. Later I realized my passion for exercise, and the positivity it has on my life. I have always been involved in athletics. In high school I ran cross country and track and also played soccer. I currently run cross country and track for the university, and participate in outdoor recreational sports, such as soccer, rock climbing, and swimming. I have always enjoyed living an active and healthy lifestyle.
Exercise Philosophy
Goal setting can be a great tool in life. But finding the underlying reasons for going through with your goals is even more important for that is what incites determination. I can not teach someone to be determined, but I can help you find the reasons behind those goals.
Future Plans
I have lived buy a quote my whole life; "Always aim for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars" so I have high goals. Among them are competing in the Olympics for track, obtaining a masters in the kinesiology field and becoming a head coach at university level track, and making a difference in public health and fitness.

Leah Baker

Experience
My name is Leah and I am a personal trainer at the Clarke Field House gym! This is my first year being a personal trainer and working here. I've loved sports and exercise all my life, and played water polo in high school. I have also worked at a summer camp over the years, being a programmer for 2nd to 5th graders.

Exercise Philosophy
I believe that exercise not only improves the way you move and lift weights and perform, but also helps you in many other aspects of life, like focusing more in school, dealing better with stress, and overall having a better outlook and mood. It is my passion to teach others about the many advantages of exercise and taking care of yourself.

Future Plans
I'm currently majoring in kinesiology with a minor in physics, and plan to attend grad school in order to become a physical therapist.

Anders Nordstrand

Experience
I worked at a private gym called PureFitness for two years before working at Crunch. I have been a personal trainer since December of 2014, but have been learning about weightlifting and training since my junior year of high school.

Exercise Philosophy
When it comes to the gym, I go by the expression "dominate humbly." I like to leave the ego outside the gym, work in silence, and let your success make all the noise. I believe that a combination of proper weight and technique is the best way to achieve muscle hypertrophy. I prefer classic weight training when I workout. Exercising shouldn't be seen as a burden, but as a lifestyle. I see it as a form of preventative medicine. Exercise and a balanced diet are the foundation for a long and happy life.

Future Plan
After graduating, I plan on becoming a paramedic it either working in a hospital.

Peter Miranda

Experience
I obtained my personal training certification through NETA in May, 2016. However, I have studied fitness and weight training since I was 16 years old.Growing up I was very overweight and it didn't only affect the I performed during physical activity, but on a day to day basis on how I felt about life. At 15 years old I decided to make a change in my life and I started exercising. I had a very rough start, but little did I know I would fall in love with fitness. 5 years later, here I am wanting to help others make the same change I went through.

Exercise Philosophy
"It's fair game." Fitness is one of the only fair things in life. You get out of it what you put in. Everyone has the same 24 hours a day. It's what you decide to do with that time that matters.

Future Plans
After I graduate I plan on heading to PT school to become a physical therapist. I always want to be a service to others who need it. If I can go to work everyday knowing that I am helping someone make a change in their life for the better, I couldn't be happier.

Experience
I spent the the spring semester in 2014 to obtain my personal trainer certification in Orlando, FL, through through European Health & Fitness Association, EHFA. Which consisted of both theoretical and practical training. We had most of our classes at NPTI Orlando, and I attended Christopher Williams’s (a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and NASM certified PT) Speedblast Workshop, «Linear and Sport Specific Speed Development» that focused on speed and resistance, through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, NASM.I have played European Team Handball for 7.5 years in Norway, I have also been active in strength- , stabilization- and balance training for my own interest since the age of 14. My specialties are weight reduction, muscle growth and stabilization- and balance training. As a personal trainer I can offer you effective workouts that will help you reach your goals. At the same time it is important to me that the workouts are varied and fun for you. I will create a training program that is customized for you and your goals, and I will push you to go the extra mile.

Exercise Philosophy
I believe in finding a good balance that fits you and your lifestyle to achieve your goals. Work hard and reward yourself once in awhile.

Future Plans
I am a media major and I would like to work in TV or marketing.

Makinna Cookrum

Experience
My experience so far is that for a semester I was a group fitness instructor at Washington State University and figured out that I loved teaching people how to enjoy working out and be able to do it effectively. I was able to teach Gravity, and learn how to teach spin and TRX. When I moved out to California I was always helping my friends workout and decided I really liked 1-on-1 training so I got my ACE personal training certification. I have always played sports my whole life and personally enjoy every aspect of being active!

Exercise Philosophy
My exercise philosophy is using effective workouts for each individual while showing them how to work out effectively on their own. I want all my clients to feel happy and healthy in their own skin. That is my goal for every person who crosses my path and I want them to have the ability to do everything they want throughout life. We only have one body and keeping it healthy is a priority that is tended to be at the end of long lists in college.

Future Plans
In the future, my plans are either to go to nursing school after I obtain my bachelors in biology and continue on to become a nurse anesthetist or to obtain a masters in business to hopefully open my own personal training/group fitness gym.

Matt Weir

Experience
I have worked in the fitness industry since 2013. Before then, when I was in high school, I had an extreme interest in fitness. This interest has now developed into a lifestyle and passion. I am certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). I have also studied NASM classes in school and have participated in workshops. As a result of studying fitness from the perspective of two separate organizations, I have more knowledge for what works best to serve an individual’s specific needs. I trained clients through my own business as well as Crunch gym. I am currently working at the Clarke Field House.

Exercise Philosophy
Straighten before strengthening and form over everything are two philosophies of mine. I also believe that strengthening the mind body connection provides the best benefits possible. I believe that exercise should focus on longevity prior to strength.

Future Plans
I plan on continuing to train clients while perusing my academic career. I want to eventually own an organization that focuses on strengthening the mind body connection through both physiology and psychology.
