CSUSM Website Redesign Project

Usability Testing Team

This year we are redesigning the CSUSM website in phases (some have been completed and another large rollout is just beginning). At key points in the design and restructuring process we would like to perform some usability testing on the proposed website templates; before rolling them out to the campus at large.

We are soliciting your participation in the usability testing team. Here is how it would work:

  1. You may be asked to assume a persona/role for the testing purposes that does not exactly match your campus affiliation. Example, a current student may be asked to pretend they are a prospective student. A staff member may be asked to assume the role of a community member, potential donor, or parent of a prospective/current student.
  2. We will have a pool of potential testers so we don’t over-burden any of you. When we put the call out for a testing event, you could opt out if the timing is bad for you.
  3. Testing can usually be done from your own location with you recording your results to each task prompt. Ideally, testing is done in one sitting, but it is usually possible to break up the testing tasks over multiple sessions.
  4. Testing duration will vary depending on the complexity of the website/structure. However, we estimate most testing to take approximately 30 min. to perform tasks and record results.

If this sounds like an endeavor you would be willing to contribute your time to, please use this form and we'll add your name to the team. Of course, if you have questions and/or need more information before joining, ask away.

We will begin our first set of usability tests in March, so your earliest response is greatly appreciated.

The web team is looking forward to working with you.
