Step-by-Step: Create a New Campus Website using Cascade
Are you interested in developing a brand new CSUSM website using Cascade? Or, do you have questions about the next step in the process for your Cascade website already under development? We've created this easy step-by-step guide as a quick reminder of the general steps involved in creating a campus website:
Step 1: Request Access to Cascade
The overwhelming majority of CSUSM websites are now created and managed through Cascade, our Web content management software. In order to use Cascade, you must first notify IITS of your request for Cascade access and your desire to create a new campus website.
Step 2: Participate in a Cascade Training Class
Once your Cascade access has been granted, you will need to participate in an IITS Cascade training class. This class will teach you the fundamentals of using Cascade and creating websites using our common campus design templates.
- Email was@csusm.edu to schedule a training date
Step 3: Create Your Campus Website
Once you have completed training, you are free to begin work on your website. Add pages, create subsections, insert graphics, and more to make your campus website work for you and your organization/department.
- View our CSUSM Website Styleguide for informative rules and tips that will help you as you work on your site
Step 4 (Optional): Create a Customized Title Graphic
Some of our campus websites contain an attractive title graphic at the top of one or more page(s) (eg: the laptop graphic at the top of this page). Because of the special font and photos needed to create a title graphic, you must consult with Dave Woods in the Office of Communications for assistance and additional information.

Step 5: Request a Quality Review and Launch Date
Once you have completed the creation of your new website, you must submit the site for a quality review by the Web Redesign Team. This thorough review will check for broken links, technical problems, typographical errors, and more.
If your site passes the review, it will be published to our live Web server immediately. If the review reveals problems, the reviewer will contact you and advise you how to fix the problem. Once you fix the errors, the site can then be published.
- Email us to submit your site for a quality review
