Prevention & Education

The Gender Equity Center is committed to providing thought-provoking, interactive sexual assault and domestic violence prevention and education to the CSUSM community. We sponsor events, programs, and educational opportunities across campus. Our annual events include Take Back the Night and The Vagina Monologues. Every year we offer a fresh line-up of programs to engage students, staff and faculty.

Our pedagogy is grounded in the reality that prevention takes a community.

It is not enough to limit women's movement. We must create a culture in which all of us may move freely and in safety.

To that end, our prevention strategies focus on:

  • Educating women and men on traditional gender norms and the ways it contributes to gendered violence
  • Empowering women to be assertive and independent
  • Raising awareness on the rates and impact of sexual assault and domestic violence
  • Engaging allies and partners in creating change across the campus and in our community
