When do you open? Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (8am - 6pm during add/drop)

What happens if my check bounces? A $20 returned check fee will be assessed and you may be disenrolled. Payment in the amount of the returned check and $20 fee must be made with cash or money order immediately to avoid being dropped from classes.

How long does it take to receive a refund? All refunds will get processed 1 week after the add/drop period deadline. Cash/Check payments due a refund will receive a check 5-10 days after refund process begins. Credit card/e-check payments due a refund will receive a credit on their credit card statement 2-4 weeks after the refund process begins.

Will I be sent a bill? No. Bills will not be sent out.

What happens if my payment is late? You may be disenrolled if payment is not received by the payment deadline. There is no grace period. 

How long does it take to clear a financial hold? Financial holds are removed as soon as they are paid for.

I have financial aid but there is still a balance on my account. Will I be disenrolled? You must contact the Financial Aid & Scholarship office at (760) 750-4850 for status of your financial aid application. If you are receiving aid, the current semester's balance due will be paid prior to a check being disbursed to you.

Can I pay before registering? No. You must register first.

What types of payment methods are accepted?

  • In person: cash, check, money order, and ATM/Debit Cards

  • By Mail & Drop Box: check, and money order- no cash (checks payable to CSUSM, please put your student ID# on check).

  • Online Payments https://my.csusm.edu : MasterCard, American Express, Discover and E-Check (a 2.9% convenience fee applies).

  • Sallie Mae Tuition Pay http://www.tuitionpay.com/csusm : Interest-Free Installments: Credit card, check, automatic withdraw, electronic check.

Why is there a convenience fee for making an online payment? The University chose CASHNet®, an independent company who provides an outsourced solution  so that the University can provide more payment options to students. the Service Charge, or “convenience fee” is charged for the convenience of an alternative method of payment. This fee covers the cost of the service, the software provided and the cost of maintaining a secure site at which to make the payment.

How do I pay my fees online? By URL https://my.csusm.edu/  or call (866) 486-0459, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If you are interested in enrolling in the Sallie Mae TuitionPay Interest-Free Installment Plan, log on to http://tuitionpay.com/csusm or call 800-635-0120. Applications are also available at Student Financial Services (Cashiers) located in Cougar Central (CRAVEN 3900).

How can I avoid paying the convenience fee? You can avoid paying the convenience fee by paying with a conventional check or money order (make sure your student ID is on your check) by mail or the drop box outside Cougar Central (CRAVEN 3900) in Tukwut Courtyard. If you are paying in person, you may pay with a check, cash, money order, or ATM/Debit to avoid the convenience fee.

What if I disenroll? If you disenroll prior to the first day of classes, you are entitled to a full refund. If you disenroll on the first day of classes or after, your refund will be prorated until the 60% period of the term. All refunds are assessed a $5 processing fee. Refer to Refund Policy.  Do not assumed you will be automatically disenrolled for nonpayment.  Please call SFS (760) 750-4491 for questions.

If I change my student status from full-time to part-time, do I get a refund? You get a refund of the difference if the status adjustment is done within the add/drop period. Refer to Refund Policy.

Does the university make any money off of the convenience fee? No. The university does not make any money off of this service. The convenience fee charged by CASHNet®, is for the convenience of the alternative method of payment. It covers the cost of the software, security measures required to provide a safe, online site to make payments, and the service.

How do other universities handle credit card payments? There are a number of other CSU campuses who have chosen to use CASHNet® SmartPay as their online payment vendor. Some choose to continue to accept credit cards on campus while others choose not to accept credit cards at all.

When are paychecks available? Paychecks are made available after 1:00 PM for State payroll and after 2:00 pm for Foundation payroll disbursements on disbursements dates.
