  Interns Who We Are....

Shannon Starnator- Hello everyone! My name is Shannon Starnater and I am currently a senior here at CSUSM. I am working towards my degree in Human Development Emphasis Health Services. After graduating this semester (Fall 2009) I will be attending the Accelerated Nursing program here at CSUSM Spring 2010. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. Since I can remember, I have wanted to become a nurse. Growing up when someone was sick or hurt in my house I was the one always taking care of them. From the time I was little my mom would call me “nurse Shannon” and tell me I should become one, because I was so loving and caring toward people’s health.

This is one reason I am super excited about being an intern at the H.O.P.E & Wellness center. I believe that health education is very important! I am glad to be a part of a program on campus that makes a difference in people’s lives. I think this is going to be a great opportunity for me to see the health education side of a health care system.

I also believe that our youth of today is our future of tomorrow. Therefore, I work for a cheerleading and dance company that is centered around youth and pop-Warner. With that said when I become a nurse, I want to work in the children’s hospital.

I look forward to learning new things with my internship here at the H.O.P.E & Wellness center!

Ashley Fennell -Hello! My name is Ashley Fennell. I am 23 years old and a senior here at CSUSM. My major is Human Development with emphasis in counseling services.  Although I do not know where I am headed after graduation yet, I know it will be in the field of health and wellness. But, I am seriously considering the Speech Pathology as a Master's program.
When I am not at school, I am working at a chiropractor’s office in Escondido. I love my job because I love working with and helping people.

When I am not at school or work, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also like to go to the beach, movies, gym, indoor rock climbing, or going on a long hike. I never sit still!

I am really excited about working at the HOPE and Wellness center for this Fall semester. I really look forward to being able to reach out to students on campus regarding their health and wellness. We have a lot of great events planned and I hope we are able to assist students on campus with any health related issues. I think the programs and speakers will definitely give the students a lot of great information so they can make educated decisions regarding issues such as smoking, AIDS prevention, etc.
